About Alternative Kits

Alternative Kits is an independent switching guide: one deep exit kit per tool, built to answer what breaks, what it costs, and whether you should switch at all.

Last checked: 3 November 2026

What this site does

Directories list hundreds of alternatives and leave the decision to you. Each kit here goes deep on one tool instead — currently Obsidian, Grok and Notion — with a short quiz for one clear pick, a checker for what breaks for the way you use the tool, a filterable comparison, and a true-cost calculator. Every kit also has an honest “should you stay?” view, because sometimes keeping your current tool is the right answer.

Independence and affiliations

Alternative Kits is independent. It is not affiliated with Obsidian, Grok or xAI, or Notion, and it is not affiliated with any alternative it lists. There are no affiliate links and no coupon codes on this page.

How facts and prices are handled

Prices and facts are checked on the date shown on each page — 3 November 2026 for the current build — on the vendor or project page, and they change. Where sources conflict, the page says so instead of inventing a single number. Always re-check the official pricing page before you pay. The checkers on this site are self-reported: they work only from the boxes you tick, in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
