What changed on 12 October 2026
Before the change, Grok was sold through plans like SuperGrok ($30/month) and X Premium+ ($40/month). Both are now closed to new sign-ups. Existing subscribers keep their plans — if you are grandfathered on SuperGrok at $30, you are paying the same headline price as the new Premium tier, so check what your plan includes before switching anything. New buyers only see the five tiers in the table above.
What the same money buys elsewhere
Premium’s $30/month is more than every mainstream rival’s main plan: Perplexity Pro and Claude Pro and ChatGPT Plus are all $20/month, Gemini AI Plus is $4.99/month, and DeepSeek chat is free (all checked 3 November 2026). What the extra $10 buys is the bundle: Grok plus an X subscription. If you barely open X, you are paying for a bundle you do not use. Run your own comparison in the kit’s cost calculator.
Questions people ask
Is Grok free?
There is a Free tier at $0 in The X Subscription. Its Grok usage limits are unpublished — no official number exists, whatever other sites claim.
Can I still buy SuperGrok?
No. SuperGrok ($30/month) and X Premium+ ($40/month) closed to new sign-ups on 12 October 2026. Existing subscribers keep them; new buyers get Premium ($30/month) as the equivalent tier.
Which Grok tier do most people need?
For most people, Premium at $30/month is the realistic Grok tier — Plus is the entry rung and Super/Ultra are for heavy users who hit limits. But compare first: if your job is research, writing or coding, a $20 rival may do it better. Take the job quiz.
